Kensington Real Estate

Located just two miles north of the beltway on Connecticut Avenue, Kensington is one of Washington’s most popular bedroom communities. Central to the area’s long term popularity is the town’s historic business district, which boasts one of Metropolitan Washington’s most popular farmer’s markets and the well regarded “Antique Row” on Howard Avenue. In fact, the historic Victorian core of Kensington is listed on the National Registrar of Historic Places.

The town of Kensington is home to only 2,600 residents, but its greater area stretches north into Rockville and Wheaton and south toward North Bethesda. Due to its easy access to the District along Connecticut Avenue, housing prices in Kensington remain strong with an average home sale price of $326,000. It is not rare for larger homes in Greater Kensington to reach upwards of $1 million on the market. Despite Kensington’s historic business district, most residents travel by car to the region’s larger commercial areas for work.

Educationally, Kensington students attend Montgomery County’s nationally recognized public schools. In fact, Bethesda-Chevy Chase and Walter Johnson High Schools consistently rank in the nation’s top 100.
